The World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Don Bosco Makkalalaya along with the students, creating awareness about environmental protection and sustainability among young people. The programme began with an inspiring address by Fr. Jim Jose SDB, the Executive Director of DBM, and Mr. Emmanuvel, who spoke about the importance of protecting the environment and highlighted this year’s theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” Their speeches encouraged students to understand their responsibility in preserving nature and adopting environmentally friendly practices in their daily lives.

The celebration continued with an engaging gardening activity, where students gained hands-on experience in learning how to plant and care for saplings. This practical session helped students understand the importance of greenery and the role plants play in maintaining ecological balance. A special plant exchange activity was also organized, where students exchanged saplings with their classmates, symbolizing shared responsibility and collective care for nature. The saplings for the event were generously sponsored by Eco Sankalp Green Foundation.

Students also enthusiastically participated in a “Wealth Out of Waste” competition, where they brought waste materials from home and creatively transformed them into practical and aesthetically pleasing craft works. This activity encouraged students to think innovatively about recycling and reusing discarded materials, helping them understand the value of reducing waste and promoting sustainability through creativity.

The celebration had a meaningful impact on the youth students by creating awareness about environmental conservation and inspiring them to become responsible caretakers of nature.
