Don Bosco Makkalalaya has initiated a literacy programme to support students who have not yet developed basic reading,
writing, and comprehension skills. The programme aims to strengthen foundational literacy, enabling students to access better
educational and employment opportunities. Literacy plays a vital role in personal growth, economic development, and community well-being.
After completing the Bridge Course in literacy, students are encouraged and motivated to join the direct SSLC course and continue their education.
School dropout remains a major challenge, especially at the secondary and PUC levels, due to various social and economic factors.
Open Schooling can play an important role in addressing this issue. Don Bosco Makkalalaya strives to create a supportive and inclusive
learning environment for school dropouts through the direct SSLC and PUC courses and by offering tailored educational support,
practical skill development, and personal growth opportunities. The institution aims to help them re-enter mainstream education
or explore alternative career pathways.
