My name is Jyoti C and I am from Pandavapura, Mandya District. I completed MSW (Master of Social Work) in 2019 and worked as an employee in a private company for one year and as a counselor in Child Helpline for 4 months. Due to covid 19, I had to leave Bangalore and find a job near to my home village. My parents are farmers and I hail from poor family background. The financial crisis at home was jeopardizing my life and forcing me to find a job as early as possible.
Mrs. Gnanamani madam, one of the social work staff identified me during her mobilization work and urged me to join Don Bosco for the three-month skill training program saying that this skill training would help me to improve my skills and find a better job. From Don Bosco Makkalalaya I learnt how to speak English along with the basics in computer and tally. I developed self-confidence as I was put through many group trainings and personality development programmes. I gained a lot in the areas of communication and leadership.
After completing the three months of training I got selected as a Computer Teacher in St. Philomena’s High School, Mysore, with the salary of Rs.15000. I am very happy about my work and I am referring new students to Don Bosco Makkalalaya for better career, counseling, and skill training. I am ever grateful to Don Bosco Makkalalaya for being the catalyst of my life.
