Seminar on Addiction

On 27th April, a seminar on Addiction was conducted for the 42nd Batch Skill Training students and Summer Camp participants. The resource person for the session was Dr. Robin KJ from the MSW Department, St. Philomena’s College. The session was highly engaging, informative, and interactive, filled with activities that kept the students actively involved.

Dr. Robin explained different forms of addiction, especially mobile phone and social media addiction, which are examples of behavioral addiction, as well as substance abuse. He discussed the science behind addiction and how repeated habits can affect the brain, behavior, and decision-making. The students also participated in a survey related to social media addiction, helping them reflect on their own habits and usage patterns.

He further guided the students on practical ways to overcome addiction, such as self-discipline, time management, healthy routines, and focusing on productive activities. Through discussions and activities, students gained a better understanding of how addiction can impact their studies, relationships, and mental well-being.

The session had a strong positive impact on the adolescent students. It created awareness about the dangers of unhealthy habits at a crucial stage of their lives, encouraged self-control, and motivated them to use technology responsibly. Students became more conscious of their daily choices and were inspired to develop healthier lifestyles. Overall, the seminar was both enjoyable and meaningful, leaving students with valuable lessons for their future.
