Seminar on Gender Equality

A seminar on Gender Equality was conducted for the 42nd Batch Skill Training students and Summer Camp students by Mr. E. Dhanajaya Yeliyur, Head of the Baduku trust and Ex CWC member. The session was thought-provoking and created strong awareness among students about the realities of gender inequality in society.

Mr. Dhanajaya highlighted the deep-rooted institutional challenges faced by women in Indian society due to patriarchy. He discussed critical issues such as dowry, child marriage, trafficking of women, female infanticide, and the everyday discrimination that exists within homes and communities. He also explained how cultural practices and long-standing traditions often reinforce these inequalities, making them seem normal and acceptable.

Further, he spoke about the efforts taken by the Indian government to address these challenges and promote gender equality through laws and policies. He encouraged students to adopt a scientific and rational approach in their thinking, rather than blindly following traditions. He emphasized the importance of questioning societal norms and standing up against injustice.

The session had a significant impact on the students. It helped them become more aware and sensitive to gender issues, challenged their existing beliefs, and encouraged critical thinking. Many students felt motivated to reflect and question on their own attitudes and behaviors, and to contribute towards creating a more equal and just society. Overall, the seminar inspired students to be responsible individuals who are willing to question, learn, and take action against gender inequality.
