Don Bosco Makkalalaya Mysuru is a community-oriented programme of the Mysore Don Bosco Society (Reg.No.121/89-90) for Child Labourers, School Dropouts and Unemployed Youth. It is based on the “Education for all” policy of the UNESCO, the Right to Education Act (RTE) of the Government of India, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN and the Educational system of Don Bosco, offering Education, Skill-Training, Job Placement opportunities and creating awareness on child rights and human rights along with the existing systems of the government and the society.
Don Bosco Makkalalaya is a community-based program of Don Bosco Society, Mysore. Don Bosco Makkalalaya was a project initiated in the year 2006 for child laborers and school dropouts in a rented house in Mysore city by Don Bosco Davangere under the leadership of Fr.Kuriakose Puthenpurayil SDB with the assistance of the Bangalore Salesian Province Development Office BREADS (Bangalore Rural Education and Development Society). In 2009 it became part of Don Bosco Sreerampura, Mysore from where Fr. Francis John was given the responsibility of continuing the service that was begun in the city. In 2012, Don Bosco purchased a center at NR Mohalla, from where additional programs were further launched. In 2011, in collaboration with the Women and Child Department of the Government of Karnataka, a children’s home was begun in the government infrastructure. In 2013, Patsal Memorial Don Bosco Makkala Mane was started and the children began living in this new centre at Kuvempunagar. In 2015, the apostolate was declared a ‘Salesian Presence’

Promotion of a Movement for a Right-Based-Society, particularly for School Dropouts, Child-labourers, Unemployed Youth and Victims of Child Marriage through Ensuring Human Rights and Child Rights thereby paving the way for the Emergence of an Inclusive Culture leading to Sustainable Development in the Society.
