On September 14, 2024, Don Bosco Makkalalaya celebrated Onam with great enthusiasm and a variety of engaging activities. The event was marked by vibrant displays of traditional Kerala culture, with students participating in multiple competitions and games.
Fr. Siju Thomas, Executive Director, delivered an introductory speech about the Onam festival, the significance of celebrating Onam, and wished everyone a happy and prosperous Onam.
•Pookalam Designing Competition: Students demonstrated their creativity and skill by creating intricate and colorful floral carpets.
•Wealth Out of Waste Competition: Participants demonstrated their ingenuity by crafting useful and decorative items from discarded materials. The competition highlighted the importance of sustainability and creativity in repurposing waste.
•Marble and Spoon Race: This classic game tested participants’ balance and coordination, resulting in lots of laughter and excitement.
•Jumping to Catch the Crisps: In this entertaining and challenging game, students used only their mouths to catch Crisps hanging from a string. It was a hilarious highlight of the day.
•Tug of War: Teams competed in this strength-based game, which promoted teamwork and friendly competition.
•Pot Breaking (Uriyadi): A traditional Onam game where participants, blindfolded, attempted to break a clay pot filled with goodies. This game added a festive and playful element to the celebration.
Students embraced the spirit of Onam by dressing in traditional Kerala outfits, adding to the cultural richness of the event. A variety of snacks were served, allowing everyone to enjoy delicious treats while socializing and participating in the day’s activities.
