Ranjitha and Sanjana are two sisters who found new hope and purpose through the transformative programs offered by Don Bosco Makkalalaya. Ranjitha is 20 years old, while Sanjana is 18. Together, they reside in a leased house in the vibrant neighborhood of Tilaknagar in Mysore. They also have a younger sister who is currently enrolled in first PUC. Their father works as an autodriver, providing for the family, while their mother is employed as a steel galvanizer at the GRS factory located on the outskirts of the city. Life has not always been easy for them; after finishing their PUC education, Ranjitha and Sanjana felt a deep sense of hopelessness regarding their future opportunities. Their situation worsened during a challenging period when their mother fell ill and was unable to work for six months, leading to significant financial struggles.
However, their lives took a dramatic turn when one of the supportive staff members at Don Bosco Makkalalaya introduced them to a three-month skill training program. This initiative equipped them with essential conversational skills in English and computer literacy, as well as vital interview techniques. As they honed their skills, they transformed from shy and reserved individuals into confident, assertive, and outgoing personalities ready to face the world. With renewed self-assurance, Ranjitha and Sanjana eagerly attended job interviews and successfully secured employment in a reputable company in Mysore. Today, each sister earns ₹13,500 per month, allowing them to support their family financially while also pursuing their educational aspirations.
Ranjitha has set her sights on pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, driven by her goal of becoming a newsreader and making a mark in the media industry. Meanwhile, Sanjana has taken the initiative to enroll in an evening college to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, aiming for a successful career in business. The skill training course provided by Don Bosco Makkalalaya has had a profound and lasting impact on the sisters’ lives, empowering them to overcome financial struggles, gain confidence and self-reliance, and develop essential skills for sustainable employment.
The sisters’ remarkable journey serves as a powerful testament to the transformative power of education and skill development, made possible by the unwavering support of Don Bosco Makkalalaya.
