Don Bosco Makkalalaya’s Awareness Campaign for National Girl Child Day

On January 24th, Don Bosco Makkalalaya organised an awareness campaign at Good Shepherd Girls High School and St. Anne’s Girls High School, Mysuru. Around 606 students, along with the headmistress, teachers and other staff, were present. The awareness campaign highlighted critical issues affecting girl children, including denial of child rights, child labour, child marriage, child beggary, children in conflict with the law, migrant children, school dropouts, runaway children. We also held discussions on topics like gender discrimination, inequality, importance of good nutrition and health among girl children and protection of girls from discrimination in family and society. The campaign highlighted the importance of National Girl Child Day, which honours the initiative taken by Indira Gandhi, India’s first female prime minister, and raised awareness on the important laws and helplines, including the Child Labour Act, POCSO Act, Child Marriage Act, Right to Education, Childline (1089) and Emergency Services (112).

By raising awareness about these critical issues, Don Bosco Makkalalaya continues to help to promote a safer, more equitable environment for children, particularly girls.
